- 4 teaspoons almond extract
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 1/4 cups butter, softened (2 1/2 sticks) for frosting
- 5 cups powdered sugar for frosting
- 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream for frosting
- 1/4 cup maraschino cherry juice for frosting
- 3 teaspoons vanilla extract for frosting
- 8–10 maraschino cherries (slightly chopped) for frosting
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350F (175C) and grease two 9-inch cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat eggs and sugar until light and creamy for about 2 minutes.
- Add softened butter and almond extract; mix until combined.
- Gradually incorporate dry ingredients into the wet mix without overmixing.
- Stir in sour cream until smooth.
- Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 23–25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow cooling before frosting.
