  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 4 oz sliced mushrooms
  • 4 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons coarse Kosher salt (or to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Freeze the steak for 30 minutes to make slicing easier. Thinly slice against the grain.
  2. Sauté sliced onions in oil until caramelized; set aside.
  3. Cook steak in the skillet until seared; add onions back to the pan.
  4. Divide mixture into portions and top with cheese until melted.
