- 1 lb ground pork sausage
- 10–12 shrimp, tail off and deveined
- 1.5 cups mixed onions and bell peppers, chopped
- 4 cups cooked rice
- 2 cups broth (preferably chicken)
- 3 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp seafood seasoning
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp pepper, more to taste
- 1/2 tsp salt, more to taste
- Pinch of cayenne pepper
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil, divided
- 1/4 cup flour
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook seasoned shrimp in 2 tbsp oil for about 2-3 minutes per side until curled. Remove and set aside.
- Add remaining oil to the skillet; brown the hamburger meat and pork sausage while breaking it apart.
- Stir in chopped onions, bell peppers, and minced garlic; cook until soft.
- Sprinkle flour over the mixture; stir constantly while adding broth gradually until thickened.
- Mix in cooked rice and let simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- Return shrimp to the skillet; combine thoroughly before serving hot.
