  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 1/2 tbsp water (for glaze)
  • 1/2 tsp strawberry extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar in a measuring cup; let proof for 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
  2. In a stand mixer bowl, mix flour, salt, shortening, egg, vanilla extract, and the yeast mixture until combined.
  3. Shape dough into a ball in a greased bowl; cover and let rise until doubled in size (about 45 minutes).
  4. Roll out dough to about 1/2-inch thickness on a floured surface; cut out heart shapes.
  5. Heat oil to 325°F; fry donuts in batches until golden brown on both sides. Cool completely on wire racks.
